Is 404Browser Free?
404Browser is a freeware application. However, development and support takes time and servers take money, thus we ask for donations. The donation button is found at the bottom of everypage. A donation is not required to use or download 404Browser, although it would be greatly appreciated.


Why am I not able to change the homepage?
In the current, and all previous, versions the most popular page determines the homepage. The homepage is set this way because it is the first page that the user sees, therefore it is something that the user would like to look at. By setting the most popular web page, based on the previous views in the history, 404Browser can save time that would be used to navigate to the website. This also prevents spyware and malicious web pages from changing the current web page to what the user does not want. However, users have asked to change the homepage manually upon sufficient demand this feature may be included in version 2005R2.

Can 404Browser read, retrieve, and display RSS/RDF/ATOM news feeds?
The NewsAgent feature stores, downloads, organizes, displays and filters news stories from ATOM, RDF and RSS feeds. Click on the New Source image in the NewsAgent. A “New Source” page will appear and paste the RSS address into the RSS Address text box.The feed will be downloaded and displayed whenever requested.

How do I clear the address bar?
To clear the auto completion feature for typing in web address click on the “Clear Address Bar” in the Options dialog.

Why is 404Browser slow to load or fails to load?
If 404Browser fails to load, try loading 404Browser again. If that fails, clear out the HISTORY_404.TXT file found in the application directory (usually Program Files\404Browser). If the browser fails to load after the file is cleared, please inform Support at 404Browser dot com . .

Why do I still see ads after I enable “Block Ads?”
Ads are blocked by the ad server domain name. If an ad still appears after “Block Ads” is enabled, click the “Ad Server Management” menu item, under the View menu, and click on “Add.” In the “Ad Server” dialog box type in the address of the ad and click on the Add button. The ad should be blocked after the browser is restarted.

Why has the version name been changed?
The versioning naming system has been changed from the old version numbers to the YEAR+ R+ Releases for year. The new version scheme allows for instant recognition of when the version was created and is easy to keep up with multiple releases during the year.

How do I report a bug?
To report a problem that is found in 404Browser please send the description, the name of the current operating system, any error messages related to the bug to or by going to http://404Browser.com/Feedback.html.

How can I make the NewsAgent update the news more frequently?
To change the frequency of the news updates, modify the update frequency under the NewsAgent Options panel.

How can I search for a specific story in NewsAgent?
To find a particular article on a subject, use the NewsAgent: Search feature. It allows the user to search through the user’s feeds for the related news item (local) or online (online). To search for a specific article type in the keywords in the search text box, under the Search slider on the NewsAgent page, select where to search (online or local) and click on the Search button.
